We all know that scent can evoke strong feelings and memories. I have definitely been transported to a different time and place with the wafting smell of my Grandmother's perfume or my best friend's favourite body wash. Think baking bread and freshly brewed coffee... you can smell it now, can't you! These smells can uplift us, and awakening our senses. ​

​Here are some of my favourites essential oils for that "fresh clean home smell" that will appeal to home buyers looking for their new home. 

1. Lemon. Great for the kitchen area. Wipe benchtops with diluted lemon oil for a fresh citrus scent.

2. Vanilla. You can find Vanilla in our blend Stress Away, which also contains Cedarwood and Lime. Diffuse before your open house, for calming yourself and your visitors.

3. Rosemary. Can be paired well with lemon. Good for around pet spaces, just ensure you dilute well.

4. Pine. Known for its refreshing aroma, it is great added to your mop bucket for fresh floors.

5. Basil. Great for a DIY surface spray for a chemical-free alternative.

6. Cedarwood. Nice for linen closets or hanging in clothes cupboards.

7. THIEVES Essential Oil Blend containing rosemary, lemon, cinnamon and cloves, this is perfect for masking stronger smells, fighting mould and mildew scents in bathroom and laundry areas.

8. Orange, which pairs well with cinnamon and cloves. Lovely diluted with oil for polishing wood finishes.

9. Eucalyptus or Tea Tree for their super crisp scent. Great for wet areas where musty and mouldy smells may linger.

10. Lime, which pairs well with Thyme. Spritz away in smelly corners of your place.

To use these essential oils for home staging:

You may like to diffuse essential oils before your open house, for a lovely soft lingering scent in the air. Please don't leave them running during an open house, as some people have an aversion to strong scents, and may just as likely be turned off. What you are going for is the smell of everything being sparkling clean, with just a subtle, light and fresh scent.  

When cleaning, think about the walls, the carpets, the floors, the cupboards, the linen, and the curtains as you clean. Infuse scent into the cleaning solutions as you go. Create your own essential oil wall wash, a carpet deodoriser, a scented floor cleaner, some linen sachets for the cupboards, a linen spray for the sheets, and wash the curtains in a scent like Thieves to remove unwanted smells. Do you love the scent of a newborn? You know, the lovely scent of soft skin. You could cuddle them all day when they smell like this! Today I'd like to talk to you about a beautiful essential oil for your newborn baby, and for you, the brand new mum. This essential oil blend is called Gentle Baby. This aroma is perfect for inviting a sense of calm for both of you... and we know that a bit of calm is what you need right now. This essential oil blend would make the perfect unique gift for the new mum and her newborn.

You won't need much at all when using this oil for baby. When heavily diluted, it makes a perfect massage oil for that all important touch-time. You might like to add it to a spray bottle and spritz baby's room for freshness after nappy changes, or before bed-time to promote sleep.

My favourite essential oils for this time of my children's lives was Lavender and Chamomile, which are both included in this beautiful blend. This essential oil blend contains beautiful rose essential oil, geranium, ylang ylang, rosewood, roman chamomile, jasmine, lemon, lavender, palmrosa, and coriander.

Don't forget about yourself at this all important time. Make sure you are eating well, and sleeping whenever you can. You are doing the hardest job in the world! Inhale some 'Gentle Baby' or Stress Away Essential Oil to help you relax and stay calm. Crying babies certainly have a way of raising your stress levels. You may want to dilute some and use it in a roller bottle as your go-to natural perfume for this all important stage of your life. Don't worry, this won't last forever. You will, one day, be able to sleep through the night without interruption! Take time to relax, drink a cup of tea, and put your feet up sometimes. You will need to take breaks, and cut yourself some slack to get through with your sanity intact. 

In addition to it's wonderful soothing aroma, Gentle Baby may help release negative emotions, which is so important at this turbulent time of change for you. You may find you are flogging yourself a little too much to keep up with all baby's needs. I know I did. You can tend to be a bit overworked during this time in your life, especially if you have more than one precious baby. This essential oil blend may assist with mental exhaustion caused by overworking or an imbalance in time manangement. Try taking a moment for a relaxing bath with some Lavender, or have your partner spoil you with a relaxing massage. Don't forget about you in the rush of motherhood!

I love Chamomile. It is such a peaceful herb. Perfect for new mums, and their little ones, or anyone who needs a little calm in their life! This week's feature oil is German Chamomile, with the scientific name Chamomilla recutita(Matricaria) flower oil. German Chamomile is the most commonly used species of Chamomile-according to wikipedia. I was also surprised to learn that it is also known as "Water of Youth." You may have tried it as a herbal tea. I certainly enjoy one regularly. This amazing herb is widely known for having a calming aroma that helps create feelings of peace and patience. The flowers and flower heads are what is used to produce this essential oil. This one little herb has been used from ancient times for anything from beauty treatment, to incense and burial. 

What you may not know is that this oil is a beautiful shade of dark blue! 


You could use this essential oil to:

• Make a beautiful massage oil for baby, and connect with your baby with beneficial touch
• Diffuse in the evening to create a calming aroma for a relaxing night. 
• Add to bath water for a spa-like experience by creating a peaceful aroma. 
• Add to daily face regimen to enhance the appearance of healthy-looking skin. 
• As a massage oil it may ease or reduce appearance of blemishes.
• Make your own flower water for spritzing,  to condition and refresh your skin.
• Apply neat to the skin in a couple of drops, for a fragrant natural perfume, except for the most sensitive skin. 

To use this essential oil, just diffuse, directly inhale, or apply topically
....Breathe in, breathe out, and relax... I'm feeling calmer already!
