Young Living Income

Work From Home with Young Living | The Oil House
Work From Home with Young Living

Income Statement

How much do people earn with Young Living? Many people who have never heard of Young Living in Australia are interested in how I actually earn money, and what kind of money can be earned with Young Living, including my family members! I used to be asking myself the same question, before I started in this little hobby of mine.

Please note, this post is in Australian Dollars. For full disclosure, individual results will vary (of course!). Income listed is a monthly income statement from a complete novice. These financial details are correct as of July 2020.

As I am just starting out, with all these questions myself, I thought I would speak to a few of the income related questions you may have. I am a complete beginner, and with alot of confusion over Young Living terminology, I wanted to break it down to make it clear to understand! Especially how much a beginner can earn with this business.
This month, I made over $1000, and I'm pretty happy with that. Not bad for a small side business. Check it out:
Income Statement Young Living | The Oil House
Income Statement
Here are the ways you earn with a Young Living business. What ends up happening is the individual sections below add up together to create your income:

Retail Sales

 $900
This is the easiest way to earn with Young Living without too much experience. This month, I made $900 in retail sales. This simply comes from the 24% commission on every product I sell. I sold over $3100 worth. This is great for me considering it is passive income that doesn't require too much time from me. Whether you sell at a local market, or with a shopping centre stall, this is easy enough for even a beginner to achieve over a relatively short amount of time.

This months best seller: Ningxia Red Goji Berry Juice!

Bonuses

 $168
For every one who purchases a premium starter collection from you, you receive cash bonuses. This is made up of little starter "bonuses," but they can add up. This month, with signing up just one new member with the purchase of a premium starter collection, I earned $168.

Commissions

 ON GOING COMMISSION $0
When you join Young Living, you are paid additional commissions in cash when you "sign up" other people as members. This is the core idea of the business, forming ongoing residual income. For starting off, all you need to know is that, for the first five people you sign up, you receive these great commissions.

1.  25% commission on anything they purchase for the first three months of their membership.

2.  This drops back to an ongoing commission of 8% on everything they purchase while they're a member.

As I am a new member, and only have had one person "signed up" before this month, this is not really part of my business, yet! It's nice however to get residual income at random times that you didn't need to do any extra work for. I have earned commissions this way recently- just not this month.

This is the "endless potential" of a network marketing business. Your income builds as you add more members, and you receive ongoing commissions.

The key take away from ongoing commissions is this: You can't really earn these ongoing commissions without placing a minimum monthly order a month (either your purchases or in retail sales). This leads us to the next point.

Free Products

 $42.80
To get the best out of your Young Living business, you really want to sign up for the Essential Rewards Program when you sign up as a member. It requires a financial commitment, ($200 a month) but then, you can use these products to on-sell.

This program gives you GENEROUS points to free products, which you can then use in your business as well. I use these every month to purchase more products to sell. This program helps you qualify for your commissions with this ongoing commitment as well.

To a beginner, it can seem a bit of a big commitment to spend $200 a month. What you soon realise is that you can get so many wonderful products for business stock, for a retail customer, or for yourself and your family, that $200 a month in purchases is actually not that hard to do. This is especially true when selling regularly, such as in a market stall or through your social media following.

What is a Carrier Oil? Why Do I Need One?

29/6/2020

Carrier Oil

Carrier Oil in Beaker | The Oil House
Carrier Oil
The term carrier oil is one that you will come across in the craft bath and body community, or if you're starting to get into essential oils. So what is a carrier oil?

A carrier oil is simply a "neutral" base. Think of making cordial. You use the concentrated cordial, in a base of water. A carrier oil mixed with an essential oil is just the same.

The essential oil is the concentrate. You only need a small amount to go a long way. Mix any essential oil to a cup of carrier oil and you have just created your first massage oil.

Know Your Carrier Oils

Carrier Oils | The Oil House
Carrier Oils
You probably already own a carrier oil in your house. Olive oil, vegetable oil, coconut oil, sunflower oil, and grape seed oil are all used as carrier oils for essential oil blends.

It does not usually matter which variety of carrier oil you use for every day use. I use whatever food grade oil is close at hand. This usually just comes down to personal preference, or maybe the particular recipe you're following. Whether you are trying to create a premium blend or a cheaper oil blend will probably sway your decision too.

Jojoba oil, almond oil, and apricot oil are all wonderful, but more expensive than their easy-to-find counterparts. In Australia, you can sometimes find these premium oils at your local health food store or sometimes even the chemist. Can't find what you're after? We have our V6 carrier oil blend of a number of carrier oils ready to use for all your diluting purposes.

Creating a bath oil with any essential oil and carrier oil is a great way to start using your essential oils. You could also create an all natural cleanser with your favourite essential oil for skincare, and a premium carrier oil.  Facial cleansing with oil using an oil cleanser has become very popular, although it may seem a bit hard to get used to at first!

Why You Need a Carrier Oil

The main reason to use a carrier oil is for dilution. This is especially important for what is called “hot” oils. These are the oils that if placed directly onto skin, (particularly when it comes to sensitive body parts) would give a “burning” feeling. Think of hot chilli. You wouldn’t want this in a bath with you!

But sometimes, warming is good. Mmm, like hot chocolate, and blankets beside the fire. Warming essential oils like Black Pepper Oil (supposedly good for spicing it up in the bedroom!) a warming Wintergreen or Oregano oil foot rub, or a massage with Panaway blend after the gym. Warming up can be healthy!

Properly diluted, these essential oils are able to give us their deep restorative benefits, such as calming and relaxing, without the unwanted burning sensation.  This is actually why many people are warned off, or avoid using essential oils. They can be mighty uncomfortable, and make for a “bad experience” if not used correctly.

It is also the case with the quality of essential oil you are using. “Cheaper” essential oils sometimes contain synthetic “filler” ingredients. These additive ingredients are not made to be used directly on skin, such as in the bath. Make sure you are using a high quality pure essential oil. Check the label if you’re unsure. You should only see ingredients you understand like botanical plant names. Best to shop from a reputable, well-known supplier of premium essential oils. Check out why we use Young Living essential oil quality here.

If you're new to essential oils, the easiest way to "get it right" is to:
  • use a diffuser, as this disperses essential oils into the air in tiny particles
  • avoid the essential oils that are labelled as "hot" oils
  • use essential oil blends as they come pre-mixed
  • or massage oils, as they are diluted and ready to use.

So what will you be creating first? A massage oil, foot oil, or bath oil? What carrier oil is your favourite? Let us know in the comments below.

Where Do I Apply Essential Oils?

18/6/2020

Many people are curious as to where they should put their essential oils on their body. This infographic shows many areas of the body that you can use oils on. You can always dilute your essential oil in a vegetable oil or carrier oil to make it go  further. Dilution will also help if the oil is considered a "hot" oil, such as Oregano, that, due to its spicy nature, can produce a "burning" feeling on the skin if used directly on sensitive skin areas. Most essential oils however can be used directly on skin. (be sure to test first)

My personal favourite ways to use oils on my body are as follows:
  • on wrists for daily perfume (my pick: Joy)
  • on forehead and temples at night before bed (my pick: Lavender)
  • back massage (love all of them!)
  • bottoms of feet and chest before bed in winter (RC or diluted Oregano)
  • abdomen (when feeling stodgy) - Digize for sure
  • refreshing face mist, made from distilled water and a few drops of essential oil (frankincense or floral oils)

You can find all the suggested essential oils and oil blends from the infographic here, including more information on how to use them in your life:
HEAD: Peppermint, MGrain, Tranquil
NECK: Deep Relief, Joy, Stress Away
SHOULDERS: Peppermint, Panaway, Wintergreen
HEART: Release, Frankincense, Bergamot
CHEST: Eucalyptus, Breathe Again, RC
WRISTS: Lavender, Stress Away, Jasmine
ABDOMEN: Digize, Fennel, Dragon Time
LEGS: Melaleuca, Geranium, Chamomile
KNEES: Copaiba, Cool Azul, Panaway
FEET: Lavender, Cedarwood, Tea Tree

WHAT IS THIEVES? and why is it popular?

6/5/2019

What is Thieves | The Oil House
What is Thieves? Post
Thieves is becoming more and more of a household name. If you've never heard of it, or you've heard the name, but have no idea what in the world it is, you've come to the right place! So, what is Thieves?

Thieves is just a title given to a particular mixture of herbs and spices. Much like the well known herb and spice blends of Bouquet Garni, or Garam Masala.
Thieves was so named after the legend of fifteenth century thieves who used a mixture of herbs and spices whilst they robbed the dead and dying. It was known that these four French thieves used a mixture of Clove, Rosemary and other aromatic botanicals.

Which brings us to our modern day era... This legend inspired this modern day mix of herbs and spices, and distilled and blended together, Thieves Essential Oil was born. The founders of Young Living created a unique blend of cloves, rosemary, lemon, and cinnamon essential oils into their popular "Thieves Oil Blend."

This Thieves Oil has become so popular, that they have created a natural cleaning collection based entirely on this oil blend. In my opinion it's popularity belongs to a few things. First, it smells divine. {No, really. It does}  Second, cloves, rosemary, lemon and cinnamon pack a punch... whether it be for their aromatic benefits or their cleaning power,
you're on a winner with this one.

You can find DIY recipes all over the internet (hello pinterest!) for incorporating this blend. So, if youre a DIYer, it is the perfect essential oil to start your oils collection. Add to your own natural recipes for green cleaning, homemade soap, surface spray, laundry powder, hand soap, floor cleaner, bathroom cleaners... you get the idea, the only limit is your imagination! If you've never smelt it, you really should try it. It smells like holiday baking and delicious spices, and is a favourite for those who use a diffuser for that "freshly baked" aroma without the hard work of baking!

You can even find versions of DIY Thieves Oil "recipe hacks" to make your own Thieves Oil but once you buy all the individual essential oils in these recipes, in our opinion, you may as well have bought "the real thing" in the bottle. The quality of the original Thieves is hard to beat- your nose knows.

Thieves Home Cleaning Australia | The Oil House

Our favourite of the Thieves cleaning collection has to be the multipurpose household cleaner. It is a concentrate, plant-based natural cleaner, infused with the cleaning power, and delicious scent of the Thieves Oil blend. This chemical free cleaner bottle will go a long way due to its highly concentrated solution, so dilute heavily  and use just capfuls for all your household cleaning. Freshen musty laundry, spray in mouldy areas in the bathroom, mop around pet areas safely, without the use of chemicals. If you're one for forgetting to buy cleaner at the supermarket, or frustrated by the lack of natural cleaner and green cleaning options, then this bottle is for you. Have this eco friendly cleaner on hand in the cupboard, and it can be used for just about any cleaning job. Give it a go and discover Thieves for yourself and your family!

ESSENTIAL OILS & MEDICAL CLAIMS

9/12/2018

Essential Oils & Medical Claims | The Oil House Essential Oils & Medical Claims
You see them everywhere, claims of miracle cures for everything we experience, giving us health, healing, and a cure for every disease and ailment known to man! With the added benefit of weight loss too! LOL. These days, through the power of the internet, anyone and everyone can make these outlandish claims, on any subject, and whether they are true or not, is really up to you and your own perception, or better yet, your own research of the facts!

There are a few problems with these medical claims however. A lot are unsubstantiated, as the scientific data isn't there for the wealth and variety of human experience throughout the ages. Although herbs and oils have been used for centuries, as yet, not alot of scientific data exists governing the use of such.

Sometimes we rely on the witness of another, but when it comes to it, our personal experience may be competely the opposite to what someone else thought, saw, or felt. Right now I'm thinking of a particular movie my sister recommended.... that I recommended to others, and then took them to, and absolutely hated. Zuh. That's the last time I'm recommending something sight unseen! This is especially true when it comes to healing modalities... I like to sit quietly, journal, and pray, and this helps my healing process, but for you, maybe journalling and prayer is not the same experience at all, maybe a soothing massage, or talking things out with a friend is more beneficial to you.

So why is there so much controversy and confusion surrounding essential oils? It is because my own personal experience, your experience, knowledge, country of origin rules and scientific data, is completely different to the next persons'! It is easy enough to debate both sides of an argument.

At times these claims can also be made by those without knowledge or enough experience and the risk is that people can (and do) get hurt. How simple it is to have too much of a good thing, or a reaction to a particular substance!

Our government through the Therapeutic Goods Administration in Australia has put checks in place to stop these unsubstantiated and sometimes downright dangerous claims. This is why you will read or see words like: may promote, might help, or "invites." It is also why treatments are not mentioned.

This means that in Australia, our pure essential oils are marketed as "cosmetics", and because of this fact, you will not see any medical claims made in terms of pure essential oils on this website. This is not to say we do not believe in the usefulness and benefits of essential oils for many purposes, it is just that it is unethical (and illegal) to do so.

One product may benefit someone greatly, but be dangerous for another. We are not your health care provider, and we cannot give individual advice.
It is against the policy of the company that we choose to stock to make any such medical claims. You may, however, discover that there are many bloggers and websites listing these benefits, but this just means that they are either; not under Australian law due to being in a different country, governed by different laws due to the nature of the product they market, or "running the gauntlet" and disregarding the rules. This is why you will read, by those who are compliant, words like: may promote, might help, or "invites." It is also why treatments to particular body ailments are not mentioned.

All that being said, we do, wholeheartedly, believe in the wonderful benefits of essential oils for your every day life! Do we have any scientific papers to show facts that speak to the power of essential oils? No... we don't. (They are out there though, if you are willing to look.) We do however have a good ol’ fashioned personal recommendations from many a satisfied customer.

You won’t know the difference you can make to the youthfulness of your skin or dry hair until you give it a whirl. You won’t believe the pure concentrated scent of floral sweetness, or warm spice and the feeling it brings wafting through your home. Ever had a massage with some of these oils? The warming, or the cooling effect, and then they transport you to another place... a far off spice market, or warm summer day in a field of wildflowers. {no joke. it happens}

With essential oils, its important to use common sense. Read the label. Check with your healthcare provider if you are on medication, pregnant or breast feeding. Keep out of reach of children and pets. Essential oils are highly concentrated, so use only a drop or two- seriously- just a drop or two at a time. They last a long time! {well, unless you use them all day, every day, like some!}

Our essential oils also keep indefinitely if stored in a cool dark spot. (We have a few cases in our essential oil accessories collection like the one below) I've had some essential oils for a few years in the cupboard, opened them again yesterday- still perfect! Thats when you know you've purchased a quality grade oil. Our oils keep indefinitely when stored correctly.

I hope you enjoy your essential oils, understand how to use them safely, and you find them effective for you and your family. Have you ever tried herbs or oils for therapeutic use? What have your experiences been like?

ESSENTIAL OIL SAFETY

21/10/2018

There can be fear when trying something new - especially when there seems to be so much conflicting information. Who do you believe? Are essential oils really safe to use? How do I use my essential oil safely? I hope to clear up some of the confusion for you, so hopefully, by the end of this post, you will know the key information to understand about using essential oils safely.
The Oil House | Safety Guidelines with Essential Oils |Essential Oil Safety
First, lets look over my disclaimer:

The information contained on this website should be considered as general in nature, and is not intended to diagnose, treat or cure any disease or condition.  We recommend doing your own research before using essential oils. Some essential oils are not suitable for those on medication, with medical conditions, pregnant or breastfeeding women. Some essential oils can make you sun sensitive. Please consult your healthcare professional for advice that is relevant to you personally. We do not take any responsibility for the misuse of essential oils. Please keep essential oils out of the reach of children and pets. We recommend you always dilute your essential oils before use.

You will see in this disclaimer a few reasons why some might think that essential oils are unsafe. Lets go through and touch on the most important things to know about using essential oils, and address them here.

SNAKE OIL SALESMEN: The cure-all statements, unsubstanciated medical claims, and downright dangerous suggestions on the internet means we should all be aware of the source of information, as well as the source of a product these days. If you do your own research, you won't be deceived by second-rate products or false and misleading information.
DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH: As with much in this information age, it's important to do your own research. Essential oils are wonderful for restoring skin tone, to balance emotions, to make homemade, chemical-free natural products, and much more. For me, the little bit of research required to use these beneficial oils in my life is well worth it. The danger comes in when using a sub-standard product, in an inappropriate way.
ON MEDICATION / MEDICAL CONDITIONS: What about the use of essential oils if I have a medical condition? Can essential oils interact with prescription medications?  If you have a disease or medical condition, or if you are using a prescription medication, it is recommended that you consult with a health advisor who has experience with Essential Oils prior to using an Essential Oil. Seek the advice of the prescribing physician and a pharmacist about potential interactions between the medication(s) and the essential oil(s). Consult a health professional about your personal situation, especially about any serious disease or injury. DO NOT attempt to self-diagnose or prescribe any natural substances for conditions that require professional attention.
PREGNANT OR BREAST FEEDING WOMEN: As with any medical condition it is strongly recommended that, prior to use of essential oils, you seek the advice and recommendation of a competent, trained health care advisor who is experienced in Essential Oil usage. It is generally recommended to avoid overuse and excessive use of Clary Sage (Salvia sclarea), Sage (Salvia officinalis), Tansy (Tanacetum vulgare), Hyssop (Hyssopus officinalis), Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare), and Wintergreen (Gaultheria procumbens) as well as the blends and supplements that contain these oils.
FOR CHILDREN: Can essential oils be used on children? – Many Essential Oils are appropriate for use with children, and they should be diluted prior to use. Some of our products are pre-diluted with carrier oil as indicated on product label and are intended for direct application on children. Children generally respond well to Essential Oils, and use of a carrier oil is recommended. One or two drops of Essential Oils such as RutaVala, Gentle Baby and Peace & Calming may be diluted in carrier oil and applied to the bottom of the feet. Keep your oils up high in a safe place where little ones can't reach.

SUN EXPOSURE: How does exposure to sun affect essential oil use? – Some Essential Oils, especially citrus oils, contain natural molecules that react with sunlight (UV light) and cause a sensitivity reaction. All of our essential oils and oil blends that contain these compounds are labeled with a warning to avoid sun/UV light for 12 to 48 hours after applying. Caution should always be used when starting to use a new oil: use patch testing (see above), dilute and apply the oil to skin that is protected from sun/UV exposure to reduce the risk of sensitivity. Our beauty and cosmetic products are formulated to remove sun-sensitising agents to reduce the risk of sun sensitivity.
Pure citrus oils may compound the effects of sun exposure. Limit prolonged exposure to direct sunlight for up to 12 hours (up to 24 hours for angelica and lime; up to 48 hours for bergamot)
ABOUT DILUTION/MISUSE: Pure essential oils come in a highly concentrated form. This means use "a drop at a time." (These oils last for a long time due to this concentration!) If you understand that these oils are a concentrate, you can avoid the usual mistakes, such as the misuse of "hot oils." These hot oils are concentrates that feel like burning to sensitive skin if applied undiluted. All that is required is to dilute, dilute, dilute. One drop is really all you need, to a half a cup of carrier oil (vegetable, olive, coconut etc..) before use in massage for example. If this whole topic scares you, and you are wanting to start slow with essential oils to see whether it is for you or not, we recommend essential oils diffusers that mist the diluted oils into the air.
FOR PETS: High quality essential oils, of the correct variety, in the correct dose, are good to use for pets. It is important, however, to know which oils for which pets. Some essential oils are unsuitable for use for cats, for example, as they lack an enzyme in their liver to eliminate these particular oil varieties from their system, and so this can cause poisoning. If in doubt, use essential oil products that have been especially created for your fur baby, such as this Natural for Animals range, or use oils around your home in a diffuser. Do not apply essential oils undiluted directly to your pets skin.
ABOUT QUALITY: Not all essential oils are created equal. We do not recommend using sub-standard essential oils, as they are not the same product, and will not produce the same results. You want a pure essential oil, from a sustainable source. Check your sources. It is our personal recommendation to avoid synthetic essential oils, and cheap essential oils as they can be unsafe to use on skin. Our essential oils are pure, from sustainable sources, and safe to use on skin and we even have products that are good enough to eat!
I hope this clears up a few questions you may have had about the safety of essential oils. This is by no means a comprehensive list, but it covers the main points of using essential oils safely. If you have any questions regarding essential oils and their use, feel free to ask via our contact page.

WHY ARE SOME ESSENTIAL OILS SO EXPENSIVE?

22/4/2018

The Oil House | Why are some essential oils so expensive?why are some oils so expensive?
I used to wonder why some essential oils were so cheap, and then, another of the same oil from a different company were so expensive. Why such a range in price? Surely there wasn't much of a difference? Or so I thought! That was, until I looked into what makes a high quality essential oil. Here are some of the reasons you will find for price difference...

NUMBER ONE REASON: The quality. Some essential oils have fillers, or are made from a synthetic, or are sourced from non-ethical sources, which means the oil can be  produced very cheaply.

Problem is, you just don't know what's in it! It ends up being not even the same product at all, so you just can't compare. Think of any "replica" product. A Prada rip-off, or fake Rolex... it just doesn't compare to the real thing! The replica product is always significantly cheaper, as are these fillers and synthetics, but they can also be dangerous to your health. This is why it's important to chase a high quality oil product- especially if applying to your skin, adding to a bath tub, or inhaling. You want only the pure, natural goodness of the original plant distilled in its purest form possible. No chemical additives. No exceptions.

NUMBER TWO: Supply & Extraction. Some essential oils can be produced more easily than others. Citrus oils are an example. You will find they are some of the cheapest essential oils. Some oils require more of the original botanical product to produce the oil or essence. Rose Oil has to have almost ten kilograms of rose petals distilled to make one bottle of 5mls of oil! This makes it our most expensive oil at just under $400. The scent from the pure essential oil versus the fake "rose" smelling candles you will find in a store just doesn't compare. Try smelling any of our pure essential oils and you will see what I mean. The aroma from just one drop is so strong.

Long story short, you get what you pay for. Our essential oils have been overseen from the very beginning: From the seeds planted on the farm, distilled from sustainably sourced botanicals, quality tested in independent labs, with the final pristine product sealed in the bottle. This way you know you are getting the best quality essential oil available. We believe in keeping the quality of our essential oils to the highest standards, especially as you may be using them for topical use in massage, or even culinary use with our culinary oils collection. Good enough to eat!
